| Katriona Munthe, already an accomplished Jungian psychotherapist, redirected her efforts toward the Arts in 1978, after meeting Lorenzo Ostuni, with whom she worked, doing extensive research on symbols and contributing ,with the first Italian group of mimes, to making Biodrama a reality in Europe.
She came to Esalen Institute in 1989 at the invitation of Steve and Anita Donovan, to see if Biodrama would work in America, organizing the first Italian Biodrama demonstration and workshop at Esalen with Lorenzo. She continued to return as teacher in residence over the next five years for periods ranging from a few weeks to six months both to work with the community and to conduct in 1991 and 1992 the first American Biodrama intensive training course for a group of nearly two dozen residents, who became the first American Biodramatists. In 1995, she married Orley Lindgren of Sausalito, California, in both a traditional English church wedding and a private Biodramatic ceremony. They are now based in London, but travel alot to Italy and Sweden, where she is looking after the family foundation, a concern in art history and conservation. In the mid 1990's, with the help of the American Biodramatists, she founded B.I.O.S., The Biodrama Institute Of San Francisco, organizing performances and events in the San Francisco Bay Area which included a multimedia Biodramatic journey into Michelangelo's Last Judgement, a public demonstration of the power of Biodrama with courageous protagonist David Mears, and a collaborative Art Show/Performance, "The Human Mysteries", with the magnificent Italian painter, biodramatist and longtime friend Antonella Cappucio, in which the artist's paintings were brought to life in a series of Biodramatic vignettes. Last year in London at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, she organized the Biodrama of Richard Olivier (the great actor's son), and Biodrama workshops in Yorkshire and Wales. In Italy, she has collaborated with various Gestalt groups, bringing Biodrama to become a part of their training. Her travels to Greece, particularily Eleusis, have sparked interest in the historical Mysteries themselves, and launched plans to perform Biodrama there. In California, she is working with Claudio Naranjo on a commentary to Homer's Odyessy, the greatest journey of all times, which she soon hopes to turn into a workshop. She has a new interest in developing Biodramatic Mime courses, and studying the deeper implications of the Witness Consciousness in Virgil. Katriona Now: Katriona has begun work on a new book on the correlation of Masks and Personality Types. Her point of departure is the Mask as Persona - the face we show to the world - so that when we deal with people, we are dealing with various levels of masks. She says the book will avoid any attempt to be scholarly and exhaustive, and will be fun and have lots of pictures! |
